Today the weather took a turn for the worse and the evening was unusually early dark, wet and cool. Since it’s been gloomy all day I decided to take the hint and sneak in a totally lazy evening watching telly. Kitty approved and settled on my belly.
Though some things may be broken, don’t fret – I’m as well as can be!! I’m a runner and as long as I can run no evil shall bring me down. Or at least so I would hope…
Today was my running day and looking at the crazy busy work schedule this week I wasn’t sure I could carve out sufficient time and muster up enough energy to complete a satisfying run.
But then my schedule cleared up and I stormed out. While I still felt a little lazy in my bones that didn’t seem to bother my legs and the ran off. It was one of the few occurrences when I actually had to slow myself down consciously at the beginning of the run.
And after about 2k I felt so great I sneaked in a little interval training, a thing I usually despise. It was glorious and I totally smashed those intervals.
Nike Coach Bennett was right – I’m a badass!
Over the last weeks something was broken. I didn’t seem to process feelings the way I used to. And I’m still not quite back to normal. Some emotions are more intense, others I can’t seem to find anymore. Is the corona virus causing this malfunction? I may have to consider shutting me down for a weekend. If that does not work I will most certainly be forced to run an overnight re-boot.
Maybe all works for naught as I’m not a machine. I’m human after all.
When it comes to lunch I’m really lucky to work where I do as we can choose from two restaurants that serve as our very own cafeterias. One is open exclusively to the staff over lunch, the other one opens half the floor to us and half the floor to the public.
Though I’m not a big eater if asked what I miss most about being away from the office I’d say it’s (apart from chatting with various colleagues I don’t interact on a work basis regularly) the lunch menu. But do not fret: I live right next to a restaurant and in order to survive they started offering second breakfast (yes, this Hobbit habit is a strong part of Swiss culture) and lunch take-away services and it’s fabulous: I just cross the side road, I can even bring my own plate as it’s that close, and voilà – I’m served my lunch for a mere CHF 15. Though I do pay 20 because I’m not going every day, I’m saving money staying at home anyways and they can certainly use the cash. Lunch is absolutely delicious and fuels me through the long afternoons behind the laptop. Thanks neighbors!
Sometimes running can feel like flying. It is – at least for some of us – a rather rare and thus highly precious feeling and one of the reasons that keep me going. Especially on the occasion when I feel like there’s not much left in the tank and then I end up soaring. Loving it!
I love all the animals I see when on runs or hikes. I cherish the young cows that are out on the pasture for the first time, curiously following hikers along the fence.
Same with horses, ponies and rabbits.
And then there are the chickens. We have lots of very lucky and undoubtedly happy chickens around here. They are allowed to roam large grassy areas, sometimes studded with bushes and trees. The chickens get moved around in a chicken-mobile so they can explore various surroundings.
For about a month now they have been in a field with low bushes in a tree nursery and when it last rained a puddle formed in one of the empty holes where a l bush had been dug out and the chickens used it as a bath. So precious, the sight was simply too sweet!
Not only is there pollen dust in the air that covers everything and gets into every crack, in addition there’s apparently Sahara dust in the air and the bone-dry north-easterly wind blows up billowing dust clouds. So don’t be surprised if you find yourself sand-blasted to the bones after a long jog.
Elvis is a real lap-cat, thus a purrfect companion to take selfies with. At first he was a little distracted as he desperately tried to push the releaser button. And lo and behold! He even managed to shoot a photo once!! 😀
Joker, Elvis’ big black brother, is not much of a lap-cat (yet anyway ;-)) so selfies with him have yet to happen.
Do you have a cat and is he/she a lap-cat?
Yoga works wonders for me when it comes to re-assessing life and it’s weird twists. And it helps me stay healthy and strong, well-balanced and – yes – sane. So lots of yoga workouts on the agenda these days. (can and will totally recommend the FitStar Yoga app – not getting paid, just a huge fan.)
About a week ago COVID-19 helped me make a healthier choice. I was tempted to pass by McDrive to celebrate the start of the weekend. But as luck had it, the Mac down the road was actually closed, including their drive-in (drive-through for all Americans among you) and take-away.
So I was forced to eat at home and stick to my good habits: I ended up having salad and chicken nuggets.
